Site Name
The Israelite Tower

Period

First Temple and the Hasmonean Period

Description
A defensive system currently “engulfed” by a small basement on the outskirts of the Jewish Quarter is one of the most impressive testimonies to the strength and might of Jerusalem during the First Temple period. In actual fact, these fortifications are from two periods: The foundations of a tower from the Jerusalem battlements at the end of the First Temple period, and an adjacent tower from the Hasmonean period.
