The construction of the large car park in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City is a national project of extreme importance.
The car park will intoduce a significant change in traffic and parking arrangements within the confines of the Old City and its environs, and improve standards of development and tourism.
The car park, which will be accessed from beneath the Old City walls, will abolish vehicular traffic inside the Old City and drastically reduce the amount of traffic within the Old City.
The 600 car capacity car-park will prevent continuous damage to the city's infrastructure, ecology and archeological sites caused by vehicular traffic.
The car park will provide an appropriate solution to the difficult parking situation currently experienced by both the Quarter's residents and visitors to the Old City.
The architectural plans by architects Sharki and Safdie have been authorized by the Jerusalem municipality's engineering department.
